In 1895, Mr Herbert Watson founded a marine insurance company in Liverpool, UK. During the First World War, the company developed into a shipping company, liner agency, freight forwarders and customs brokerage. In the late 1970s, the insurance concern was sold, allowing the company to concentrate on developing its interests in freight forwarding and the services it offered as a shipping agency.
Herbert Watson (Belgium) was founded in Antwerp in 1981, primarily to look after the interests of Herbert Watson (UK) and to consolidate a groupage-service between the UK and the Benelux regions.
However, Herbert Watson (Belgium) began to follow its own course. Delving into oil and gas project forwarding, the Belgian subsidiary built up its own clientele and developed a network of correspondents that extends around the world.
Today, although Herbert Watson (Belgium) has remained ’a small company’, it is considered to be a pure freight forwarder, skilled in every branch of the forwarding business from liquid bulk to chartering.
